As part of an art residency program, I taught a workshop for high school students on site-specific art and urban exploration in Medellín, Colombia. This experience allowed me to explore the creative process of art making as a pedagogical tool, as well as to learn a new place through the eyes of nearly 90 teenagers. The workshop was developed through games and the creation of simple works that attempted to motivate the students’ attention towards their surroundings, as well as to invite them to imagine possible interventions that would temporarily transform spaces in the city. I presented the group of students with a brief context, but they were the creators and makers of every project. The diverse proposals and creative processes reflect the multiplicity of neighborhoods and schools involved in the project. Ciudades Imaginarias is a contemplation of this collective creative process; the viewer is invited to wonder through city landscapes and the progression of these small site-specific interventions. The video unfolds by navigating contrasted spaces and the succession of apparently disconnected places, which are related through opposition, geographic elements, and the natural progression of time.
